Inmediatamente después de que el niño consume algún dulce o chocolate se debe lavar los dientes y la tarea para los padres es iniciar un proceso de sustitución de azúcar por frutas, pasas, galletas, nueces o barras de granola.
Las cantidades exageradas de dulce generan malestares bucales porque las bacterias de la boca y la saliva los convierten en ácidos rápidamente.
Hay algunos dulces con consistencia pegajosa como los caramelos, que fomentan el crecimiento de bacterias y de placa dental; por lo tanto, no son recomendables, pueden producir una grieta en el esmalte del diente, que es el comienzo de una caries.
Si penetra la cavidad de la pulpa y llega hasta los nervios, el dolor y la inflamación serán intensos, incluso si no se quita el tejido y se remplaza, puede empeorar y crearse un absceso.
